I'd say the second one was borderline - if his second booking carries an element of persistent foul play after his first, then maybe it was right.

not saying they were world class but the roms were certainly more of an attacking threat than anyone else we have played so far.
not sure why bilic did not address the threat from both wings, we were too narrow and our full backs were one on one many times after collins got sent off
should have had 5 across the middle with poyet on

we breezed through the first round with our 2nd in some cases 3rd string
second round gave us the excitement of penalties
3rd round, we were very good and enjoyable to watch for 60 mins
i know we let a 2 goal lead slip but i dont think its as bad as some make out

FWIW I don't think that Astra (or whoever they are) were that bad, a big step up from the Andorrans and Maltese and certainly not a pub side. I believe they beat Lyon at this stage last year?
Hope I'm wrong but I'm not expecting our second string to get a result out there.... after all we're bound to be playing with 10 men after 20 mins!

Talking bollocks? Oh you mean the late goals we conceded against Man U, a team with one of the biggest budgets in world football? Or the games we ended up drawing 1-1 with Premier League opposition? I agree last season was frustrating and not pretty at times.

I said to my daughter on the way out last night that the problem is with these EL games plus friendlies is that he seems to play half his strength in one and the other half in the other with some kids and second stringers to make up the numbers.
By doing that the strongest XI (whoever they are) don't get game time together to settle into a rhthym. When we play Arsenal it looks like it will be anew combination.
Perhaps he will settle on a team in the remaning 2 freindlies???

We really have got a three speed team currently- the old school "squad" players JOB etc This summer's influx, and the young uns.
If you look at these games as being a perfect opportunity to let Slav see which combination( s) work before the real work starts in the PL, it makes alot more sense than somehow thinking we ever earned the right to be in this competition.
Seeing just how slow both mentally & physically the likes of JOB were last night highlights where we have problems- you could practically hear his mind clunking and wait waiting to take a pass or move into acres of space last night, and then all the momentum goes. Again.

Talking bollocks.... we were a class above them until the sending off and would easily have run out 3 or 4 nil winners.
And your point about BFS... that DID happen all the time under the fat onem, surrendering leads in the last minute having shut up shop trying to defend a 1-0 lead.
Those saying that an Allardyce team would have held onto the lead have very short memories.
The first 60 mins was the best football I have seen us play since a handful of games in Oct / Nov last year.... and it will only get better with Jenks, Sakho and a decent CB coming into that side.
